For this assignment we were asked to look at the Ebola survey, created with Google Forms, recently posed to P3 pharmacy science students. Here is the data set that represents the results from questions 26-31.  The design of the study was a pre-post, where students completed the survey, sat through an information session about Ebola, then took the survey again.

The research question was did the intervention have any impact on the knowledge, skills or attitudes of the students?

In order to answer this question we need to compare the descriptive data and t-test results of the pre-test means for each question to the post-test descriptive and t-test results.

The first task of this assignment was to identify the variables. The first variable is an independent variable which means that it is the variable that causes change. For this problem, the independent variable is the lesson given to the students about variable. The dependent variable is the item that changes and in this problem it is the scores of the students. 

The data shows that the T-Test is very high indicating that there is no significant difference in the scores. There were some scores that were high and some that were low which indicates that the information session that was presented to the students did not make that big of an impact. 

In short- The informational session on Ebola seems to be unsuccessful.

I do not like to watch myself on video but I bit the bullet and did it anyway. I chose to show a video on a program that we use in class. It is a spelling program called spelling city that helps kids learn their spelling words. 

The video was 4:15 minutes. I tried to sound as upbeat as possible and tried not to bore my audience. I decided to sit, few pauses and tried to pace my rate of speech.   

I left the error in the presentation because it shows that even sometimes unexpected things happen. 

So here it is

In terms of SAMR this technology is being used more effectively for things like distance learning, collaborative teacher meetings where not everyone can be at the same place at the same time and to show new and upcoming programs, movies, ideas or lessons that others may not have thought about. It could transform the way that information is shared among staff.  

I used google maps for fun rather than a student lesson.  I went into google maps and looked up Vineyards of Loudoun County. I thought that after this class is over, the students may want to take an adult "field trip" to one of our areas finest vineyards.

T-TESTS

I unfortunately do not have the Excel Packet so after a few deep breaths into a brown paper bag I slowly made my way through this assignment.

I used the video to work the problems step by step and came up with the answers which are posted here.

I am used to Hypothesis, Null Hypothesis, T-Tests and standard deviations thanks to my stats class as an undergrad.  It has been a while since I had to do the actual math.  As a teacher we are given tests and the work is done for us.
I watched the video that shows you how to do the T test.

Hypothesis:
H1 Null: There is no correlation between White and Black Scores.
H1: There is a correlations between White and Black test scores.

H2 Null: There is no correlation between White and Hispanic Scores.
H2: There is a correlations between White and Hispanic test scores.

H3 Null: There is no correlation between Black and Hispanic Scores.
H13 There is a correlations between Black and Hispanic test scores.

It is apparent that through the results of the t-test, there is a significant difference between the three ethnic groups when looking at reading scores.  Ethnicity does impact the scores.

I added my address to the chart that was given to us in the assignment.  I copied the entire list and pasted into the GeoBatch page.  The map above is the result.  I found it very interesting that we have quite a diverse team; from Africa to England to  Arizona. After I uploaded the map, an email was sent to my SU address and I copied the link. I went to the blog and embedded it into the blog.

As I have written in other blogs, my special education class is studying The American Revolution.  I would use this to show the class where the money was coming from to finance the Revolution. I could use it as a summative quiz.  The students can add the addresses in the application after they learn what countries supported the Colonists and make another one to show what countries supported England.

In terms of SAMR, this application goes beyond the text book and maps and the children can add the locations themselves.  It is an interactive activity and visual for children who have issues with seeing "the big picture"

NUMBERS 1.3

Well, this was not easy. I am NOT good with math by any means. Here is my work.

The assignment was to analyze data related the the reading abilities of 8th graders nationwide. I computed the Standard Deviation, Mean, Median, Average, Minimum and Maximum.  I sorted them from smallest to largest for all students. 

The females scored an average of 271.70 compared to the male's score of 261.53. This would indicate that females are better at reading than makes in the 8th grade nationwide.  If I were a reading teacher I would suggest an intervention for the males nationwide to increase their scores. 

  

  I'm from Pennsylvania and we scored a 272.19th overall!!

I wasn't sure how to get the program to do what I wanted it to do so I watched this tutorial .
I wanted to add my business website so I looked up another video .  Pretty easy.  I did not want to add too much personal information but overall I liked this application. SAMR -I would not use it as a resume but I would have the children use it for a presentation.  It would replace the power point and would be visually appealing.  I like the features like adding music, photos, websites and customizing.  Here is the Presi that I made.
